Students' week. .

By Syeda Nadia Zareef.

Celebrating STUDENT’S WEEK is a must activity in every educational institution be it school, college or university because after having so many hardships (in terms of studies) during the whole year students need some relaxation in the end which works as a HAJMOLA to digest all the theories, concepts, views, perceptions and so on.

Then how come KARACHI UNIVERSITY remain behind especially when it’s a matter of entertainment, so every year by the late OCTOBER, it is celebrated deliberately and passionately (yes in this particular week every student is so deliberate and passionate to enjoy). Although for majority of students every week is student’s week with full-on HALLA GULLA & MASTI but still it is something ,for which everyone waits because it gives you license of doing every odd thing ,and to enjoy every bit of your student life.
Now let’s talk about how it is celebrated, every department celebrates it in its own way. Mostly science departments celebrates COLORS DAYS, whole week students dress-up according to the color of the day, while arts department goes with the THEMES like cheap day, fancy dressing day, cultural day etc. some celebrates WEDDING WEEK as well. MELAS and SEMINARS are also organized by some departments, while different sorts of games and competitions are also set up in every department.

Student’s organizations like JAMIAT and APMSO also actively participate in the occasion (as always) Jamiat organize BAZM-E-ADAB where JO RAKHTEY HAIN SHAIRANA ZAUQ, KARTEY HAIN POORA APNA SHAUQ!!!!!!!!! Wow! I can also do poetry!!! . The last day is very happening in which Jamiat organize NEELAAM GHAR (same that used to broadcast on PTV but not with that much impressive host) where students get a good chance of winning so many impressive items from books to bikes and gold rings and earrings as well (Hmmm! that’s not bad).

Then the most happening and enjoyable part of the whole student’s week is a MELA organized by APMSO on the last day. Students from other universities also visit on that particular day just to enjoy that mela, here you find Food Stalls with delicious food items, then so many Games and Competitions are also set up with gifts to the winning ones. Surprisingly, a PALMIST is also found out there. Those who have a belief in palmistry fulfill their wish to know the future (although, it’s more of a fun than palmistry). All in all it’s great fun to be there on the last day with friends and to pass quality time with them.

So, on the whole, students week gives so much colors and joys to the university and works as the energizer for the students so that they could prepare for the terminals with a fresher mind.

  1. Good one Nadia!! I totally agree with you. This students' week is actually our pride as well as license to do anything but in ethical boundaries. Unfortunately some don't follow it.
